Clouds Rest via Tenaya Lake The 'younger' brother of the world famous Half Dome, Clouds Rest is in fact a solid 1,000 feet taller despite receiving significantly less attention. Be sure to bring bug spray if heading out in the early summer, as there is known to be mosquitos along this route. Clouds Rest, one of John Muir's favorite peaks, offers spectacular views over Half Dome and numerous Yosemite peaks.
Interestingly, we met very few that wanted to hike El Capitan, which is pretty surprising given how iconic it is. Then when we got done with Half Dome we went the rest of the way into the Little Yosemite Valley. This loop combines Clouds Rest, the John Muir Trail, and the high-elevation Sunrise Lakes. If you plan to take on one of Yosemite’s big hikes, chances are you have Half Dome or Clouds Rest on your list.

It was really nice to be able to do Half Dome without full packs, just a day pack with water and food. We stayed the night there, left our stuff in our tents and went to do Half-dome, which is only like 2 miles from where we camped. The trail on the other side is about 2 milesish of steep switch backs but once you get to the intersection of the JM trail, there's a camping area near a creek that's really nice. Two weeks ago me and a couple friends started out at Tenaya Lake around 9 am on day 1, we got to the top of Clouds rest around 1 or 2, stayed there for a while and when down the other side.
